‘Foundations’ Young Horse Package

Give your new addition the best start in life with Makino’s young horse foundation package. We are able to take on mares with foals at foot and begin their education from day one, or at any stage in their young life. Your foal will receive careful and considered handling to ensure a confident youngster.

We offer soft weaning with the dam on site or alternatively your weanling can come here on their own to be buddied up with a sensible baby sitter.

Our young horse packages can include any or all of the following services.

Foal handling from birth to weaning - Your foal will be taught to confidently be caught in the paddock, be haltered, lead, tie and load on the float. As well as have their feet handled and trimmed.

Weaning – Your mare and foal can come to us for soft weaning. This is a less stressful method of weaning where the foal is buddied with a babysitter gelding over the fence to the dam.

Youngster Socialisation and hill confidence* – Yearlings to 3 year olds can be grazed in our social hill herd where they can use their bodies and find their feet over varied terrain.

*for basic young horse herd social grazing, make sure to check out ‘Herd Grazing’ options- this may be better suited to a well-handled youngster.

Starting – Meraki Equine offers on site starting services for your youngster, while still enjoying the stimulation of the hills and social herd dynamics. Your newly started horse will enjoy extensive miles out hacking in the hills as well as beach rides, road rides and confidence building sessions out on their own and with others.
