Laminitis Rehabilitation

Makino is equipped to help manage grass induced laminitis cases and rehabilitate these horses back to happiness. We have a dedicated grass free area where horses and ponies can be closely monitored and provided with low sugar, soaked hay during the acute and recovery phases. A deep sand area provides soft footing to allow your horse to find comfort on sore feet. We work very closely with local farriers and vets to help your horse through this tough period.

Movement, appropriate diet and hoof care are pivotal in the successful recovery of your laminitic horse. Once your horse is through the acute phase of laminitis and is more comfortable on their feet we are able to transition them to one of our soft track areas to encourage more movement while remaining on a grass free diet.

We are dedicated to educating and supporting owners with post recovery management of laminitis so these horses can be successfully kept at home, even through high risk times of the year.

For those that need more support in managing their high risk horses, we have our track grazing available for longer term livery.

The weekly rate includes ad lib low sugar hay, a daily feed of Harvest Grains Timothy Smart Feed and Kohnke’s Own Cell Vital. Also included is all day to day management of your horses space including mucking out, at least twice daily soaking and filling of hay bags, monitoring of your horses condition and administering medication.
